Day 5: St. Thomas, USVI
(you can start this trip report from the beginning by clicking here)
I somehow lost the navigator for this day (you can see all of the other days here), which makes me so mad because I am SO careful to keep them at the end of each day. I have no clue where it could have gone!
Today we were in St. Thomas and we woke up to this:
This had been delivered to our room – our reminder for the Remy Dessert Experience the following afternoon.
We had been to St. Thomas once before, exactly 4 years ago in 2014, and we had such a great day (you can read the 2014 excursion review here) that we decided to do the same thing again, which is a private charter with Second Wind Charters. I have already written a detailed review of our excursion which you can read here (be sure and make it all the way to the end for a surprise!), so I’ll just include a few of my favorite pictures here.
All aboard was 4:00 pm, and I think we got back to the ship around 3:00 pm. We thought we might swim for a bit, so we went up to the pool to see if it was crowded – it was. So, we went back to the room and started rotating through the shower. I didn’t take note this afternoon, so I’m not sure what we did, but we most likely watched movies in the room (while everyone showered) until the evening show at 6:15.
At 6:15 we went to the Walt Disney Theater to see “The Magic & Comedy of Nick Diffatte”.
He was pretty good, but not a must-see. His comedy was more impressive than his magic – I was laughing the whole time, but I could clearly see how he pulled off his big finale trick.
After the show, I noticed in the navigator something about signing up at Tiffany for the “mystery blue box” by 7:25, with a drawing to be held at 7:30. We had nothing else to do, so we went to check it out.
Basically, you could write your name on a piece of paper to enter. Once the drawing began, the person would pull out names one at a time. Each time a person’s name was called, they would walk up and choose a metal key from a bowl (there were LOTS of keys in it). Then, they would use their key to try to open the lock on a clear display case that housed a large blue box in it. If your key opened the door, you won the box. Lots of names were called with no luck (including mine). They went through 20+ people before someone’s key finally opened the box. The winner unwrapped it in front of us, and it was a large ceramic box – I was too far away to see the details, but it looked like it had travel-related stuff painted on it. I was surprised that it wasn’t a piece of jewelry, because you know that’s what everyone was hoping for!
After this it was time to head to dinner. Tonight we were in Royal Court.
The Marinated Tiger Shrimp (very good):
The Oysters Rockefeller (didn’t taste):
The Aged Prosciutto (very good):
The Fettuccine with Parmesan Crusted Chicken (very good):
Melroy gave us several crayon tricks which we always enjoy:
The dessert menu:
When I told Melroy I didn’t want any dessert, he asked why and I told him that nothing on the menu really appealed to me. He encouraged me to choose something from the Animator’s Palate menu (which shares a kitchen with Royal Court), so I looked at the menu on the app and chose this Cappuccino Mousse which was delightful! You can see it even came on an Animator’s Palate plate:
The Chocolate Lava Cake – they put on the ice cream at the table so that it doesn’t melt before it gets to you:
After dinner we went to “So You Think You Know Your Family” in the D Lounge followed by Family Karaoke at 10:45. We finished at 11:00, but, it was really 10:00 because………
We were finally getting the ship time matched up to EST due to Daylight Savings. FYI, don’t try to change the time on your stateroom clocks – your room host has to use a special tool to do it and he/she will do it for you during the evening turndown service.
Up next: Day 6 – At Sea
