When we sailed on the Wonder in the Fall of 2015, we did something we had never done before – a towel folding class. If you have never been on a Disney cruise before, let me fill you in on the towel animals. Your stateroom host will leave one for you each night when they turn down your room, and they can get really creative. My family loves coming back to our room after the show to see what animal is waiting for us. I actually have a post about towel animals here, where I show all of the animals from our first several cruises. I don’t know how often this class is held or if it is also held on the other ships, but just check your daily navigators during your cruise to see if it is offered on your sailing.
I also wrote about this class in my trip report (you can read that here), but I feel like sometimes things like this get buried in trip reports and people who are interested might never see it. So, I am going to separate in into its own post here, plus try and add some additional information and photos.
First, I will admit that while I was excited about this class, I was a little but skeptical of how it would go. Would it be rushed? Would we be able to see the instructor? Would my kids be bored? Well, we all ended up having a lot of fun and I think our animals turned out great!
The class was held in Studio Sea, which I believe was renamed to D Lounge after the Wonder’s renovation in Fall 2016. Here is the family waiting to get started. As you can see, they had printed instructions for the animals we would be making, and they supplied us with plenty of towels.
These are the instructions. We would be taught how to make the monkey, swan, and a variation of both the elephant & dog, but not the lobster.
At the front of the room, they had samples displayed of some towel animals. However, only 2 of those displayed (the monkey and swan) were ones that we would make in this class. I’m honestly not sure what the other three were – perhaps a dinosaur, frog and rabbit?
The way the tables were set up, it was easier if our group of 5 split into 2 groups. So, I paired off with our oldest, my husband paired off with our youngest, and our middle daughter ended up just going back in forth between both groups and judged who was doing a better job.
The class was led by a stateroom host who stood at the front of the room and slowly walked us through each animal. There were also room hosts walking around the room offering hands-on help, which I thought was great. There were a lot of people who needed extra help, including us.
First up was the swan. This one was pretty simple and probably the easiest one. Here is mine:
And here is my husband’s:
I was declared the winner of this round.
Next up was the dog. This one was a lot trickier. Now that I look back at the instructions, we made the body differently than was shown on the paper, although the head appears to be the same. Here is the first part of mine, which is the body and legs:
Then I added the head:
I was pretty proud of this one so I took photos from every angle.
At this point my competition was starting to falter a bit, which must be why I stopped taking pictures of theirs.
Next up was the “lazy” elephant, which is a variation from what is shown on the instructions. I’m assuming this way was easier. Here is mine:
The instructor was moving at a fairly quick pace, and I remember having to work quickly to keep up. I don’t think that kids would be able to keep up at all without the help of an adult.
Finally it was time for our last animal, and my family’s personal favorite – the monkey! We always seem to get a monkey in our room on pirate night and we always make sure and keep it hanging up in our room for the rest of the cruise. Here is the first part, which is the body:
And then we added the head:
The monkey was actually one of the easier animals to make, which surprised me.
Overall, I thought this was a great way to spend an hour on a sea day and we all had a lot of fun. I would definitely do it again!

we did this on the dream in January and we had a ball. The instructors were good and funny. and my husband and I were next to two ladies and we all shared our sense of humor through out and were laughing the whole time. It was great
