A few years ago I wrote a post about making my own Disney luggage tags (you can read about that here). Well, since then, we have moved twice and with a cruise quickly approaching (details here), I finally got around to making a new set. The old set was a classic Mickey/Minnie theme, and this time I decided to change things up and go with a princess theme. First, these are the supplies I used (just click on the links for details):
That’s it, other than my computer, regular old ink jet printer and white card stock paper. On my last tutorial I used scrapbook paper, but this time I am just going to use computer graphics printed on plain white paper because I haven’t seen my scrapbooking supplies since the move and I don’t want to go digging for them.
To start, I used a graphics program on my computer (I use GIMP) to create some princess-inspired images that were the correct size for the laminating pouches. This ended up being about 2″ x 3.5″. I am not a whiz at computer graphics by any means, and wanted to get through this step pretty quickly, so mine are very basic. If you have mad graphic skills and more time, I’m sure you could come up with some stuff that would put mine to shame.
Here are the 12 tags that I made, already cut out, as well as the pouches and laminator:
A close-up of the backs of the tags:
Here is what the front of the tags look like. I printed the name sides out on a separate sheet of paper and then cut and glued them to the princess pieces:
Next it was time to place each tag inside a laminating pouch while the laminator warmed up:
Here they are all ready to go:
I sent each one through the laminator twice and then checked the edges to make sure they were tightly sealed. It is important to put the closed end of the pouch through the machine first.
Here they are all sealed and cooling off:
All I had to do next was place the plastic loop on each one and they were done!
This is a pretty simple and quick way to make custom luggage tags, with the main expenses being the laminator and luggage tag set. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
