Guest Trip Report: 4 night sailing on the Disney Magic from Miami
Day 3
I watched us pull into the dock on Castaway Cay (again) early in the morning. It was a beautiful day, but windy! I could see that they didn’t have any of the umbrellas open on the beaches – we’d find out later that was because the wind was just too strong. They would not allow us to put them up for safety reasons.
We had quick breakfasts from the concierge lounge and Cabanas again and got ready to get off the ship. I mentioned in my last report of Castaway Cay that we like to get off early when we’re here and this day was no exception. We love an almost-empty Castaway Cay and first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon are the best times for this. We take advantage of both.
And, as is our usual method, we walked along the path to the cabana check in hut.
Along the way we saw Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto out saying hello to guests. It was so fun to catch them all at this one spot since Goofy and Pluto were swapping out at that time.
We also saw Mickey drive by. He was headed to his own photo spot a little further down with the ship in the background and a photographer stationed there to take your photos. We did take advantage of this photo op.
We made it out to our Cabana #8 (full review here) – the same one we’d had on the previous cruise of our back to back. Again, we were not allowed to raise the umbrellas on this day, but the wind kept things cooled off.
Since this was our second stop at Castaway Cay on these back to back cruises, our boys wanted to venture out to a place we had never been to yet in all our times visiting the island – In Da Shade. The cabana crew drove us over in one of the golf carts so we didn’t have to walk.
This area was almost empty when we got there that morning. There are pool tables, basketball hoops, a giant chess set and connect 4, and ping pong tables. There are also smaller game tables with checkers and some shaded regular picnic-style tables out front with nothing on them. We played almost all of those games and had a great time.
The breeze doesn’t reach back in there as much as out on the beach so we did get a little warm by the time we left – we went straight to get ice cream as soon as the stations opened. Shortly after that we realized we were more hungry and just ate an early lunch since Cookies was open as well. Ice cream before lunch is perfectly acceptable on Castaway Cay (and on the ship, for that matter)!
After lunch we headed back to our cabana to swim and relax.
Interestingly, the water was much warmer than it had been only a few days before. But there was a lot more haze – perhaps due to the high winds – and visibility of the ship was not as good as usual. (We were all very glad we had been able to dock at all.)
The boys decided they wanted to go over to Pelican Plunge for a bit and slide. Hardly any lines again.
Then, more ice cream.
And then, more relaxing at the cabana.
At the end of the day (around 4pm), we walked back to the ship. Actually, the guys all took a golf cart to the tram and I walked back.
And because I got to the character spot closest to the ship a little later than they did, I got to see several characters all at once.
Goofy again, Chip and Dale, and Minnie and Mickey in their ride vehicles.
Back on the ship, the concierge team had left us our favorite treats again – Oreo pops. We devoured these while taking showers and relaxing in the room.
My husband and I had reservations for Palo dinner that night and we gave the boys the choice of going to the MDR (which was Triton’s for us that night) – we had already asked our servers if that would be ok and they enthusiastically said for them to come and they’d take care of them. Or they could go to Cabanas or the outdoor food places near the pool. They chose a combination of the last two, mostly because they love the pizza from Pinocchio’s. Then they hung out in our room.
I usually just order a glass of wine for dinner at Palo, but tonight we both tried a cocktail (Balsamic Grande) because it sounded interesting. I thought it was good, but the balsamic was a bit strong for me – I love to eat it with food, but didn’t love drinking it.
We had the calamari for an appetizer and I had the Tuscan White Bean Soup – a favorite.
My husband ordered the lobster pappardelle and I had the gnocchi and the scallops with risotto. He also had a steak and added the Gorgonzola sauce – amazing.
And then, of course, chocolate soufflés. I cannot resist this dessert with the two sauces. It is so special and so good!
We found the boys watching a movie in the living room and a new towel animal on our bed – I am not sure what it is. A rhino or elephant, maybe?
The final day of our back to back cruises is up next – a day at sea with very few plans and a lot of relaxing to do!
