This is Disney Dream stateroom 5520 which is a category 8A Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom. It is on deck 5, starboard side, at the very front of the ship. It sleeps 3 people and does NOT have the split bathroom configuration. It connects to room 5522 next door, which is also a category 8A with no split bath, and sleeps 3 people. Note that this room category (8A) has a much different layout than the category 8B, 8C, and 8D Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms in that it is square shaped instead of rectangular, which makes it feel much more spacious and means that it has 2 portholes instead of 1. The main drawback to the category 8A rooms, however, is the lack of the split bathroom configuration. Some 8A rooms sleep 3 people, and some sleep 4. Here is a good link that will tell you some information about the 8A rooms (this information is true for both the Dream and Fantasy) such as how many they sleep, if they have a tub (some don’t), and if they have a dividing wall, privacy curtain, or pole in the middle of the room:
Here are some thoughts from Sara W., who was kind enough to send these photos to me:
We walked past this room on a previous cruise and were curious because it is so spacious! The DCL website says that this room has the same square footage as a typical category 8A stateroom, but either it’s slightly bigger (and not listed as such) or the use of space is much more efficient. We were also able to see the fireworks from our window seat. That was great, although I’m not sure if that would be the case every time based on wind direction or other factors.
There are a few negatives to consider. This room does not have the split bathroom feature, so there is only one bathroom. Also, it was slightly difficult (for me) to find. I attached a picture of the deck layout because the location of this stateroom is not easily accessible by walking directly from midship or aft. You either have to take the forward elevator/stairs up, or walk through the kids spaces from midship/aft (which was always very crowded) and cross through the forward elevator lobby to get to this room. For some reason I could not get this through my head and got turned around trying to get there every single time, for the full duration of the trip. This room only sleeps three, and it does have an adjoining door to the room next door.
I will definitely book this room again, but I may book it on the opposite side of the ship, or the same category on deck six (to avoid my directional confusion), which is the only other deck where this layout is available.
