This guest trip report was written by Molly, who sailed on the August 6, 2021 UK Staycation Magic at Sea sailing on the Disney Magic from Southampton, England. It was a 3 night cruise to nowhere. You can start the report from the beginning here.
Day 3: At Sea
I woke up early this morning as I had a Rainforest Room booking for 8:15. I forgot to mention before, that the buttons to call the elevators are now touch free! I got something light to eat in Cabanas, and it was really quiet at the time.
I headed to Senses Spa for my Rainforest Room booking, which was a 45 minute slot and I got access to the area to myself. Thinking about it, I prefer this to usual times! It was lovely to have the whole area to myself. Then I checked in for my last massage of the cruise. Komang was my therapist for all 3 massages, and she was brilliant.
After this I rushed back to the room to shower and change and get ready for my brunch at Palo. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’ve not done this before, however I have read blog posts about it. There was no buffet set up. Everything was selected from the menu. I was offered a complimentary Prosecco or mimosa on arrival, so I got the mimosa. My server, David, was very helpful and explained how the set up worked and how to order from the menu. The bread selection was good! I especially enjoyed the focaccia.
I ordered the buttermilk pancakes first. They were so light and fluffy. Then I had eggs benedict, which was so tasty. I couldn’t decide between the chicken parmesan or the lasagne bolognese for my entree, so I got both! I managed half of each. The chicken was amazing but the lasagne was the best.
For dessert I asked for David’s recommendation between the tiramisu or chocolate fondant, and he brought both to try. Again, these were fantastic. The chocolate fondant was rich, and the espresso gelato complemented it perfectly. The tiramisu wasn’t what I expected, but a really pleasant surprise! I think of the 2 desserts I preferred the tiramisu.
After brunch I had a little time to relax before heading to the matinee showing of Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic. We popped back to the room and has a squid blanket animal! We arrived early for the show as we expected it to be busy, so mum had the space in line whilst I grabbed some extra pins from the gift shop. We got great seats, and the show was AMAZING. I enjoyed Tangled: The Musical too, but this show was my favourite. It almost brought me to tears on a few occasions!
We decided to grab a small bite to eat after this, so I got another shawarma serving as I enjoyed it so much yesterday.
Mum headed back to the room, and I went to Cove Cafe for a specialty coffee. We could see where we were on the TV which was nice.
It was a lovely atmosphere, and the captain found some sun so I enjoyed looking out to the pool area. I have to say I’ve been pretty impressed with the weather. The forecast wasn’t great, but we have managed to sail into blue skies for most of the trip. It’s been quite windy but not too cold. A little too cold for me to enjoy the pool though!
After a sit down and watching most of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I decided the cold never bothered me anyway (see what I did there), and headed up to Quiet Cove. I think it was round 6 o’clock, so as expected it was practically empty, with only one other family there. They left shortly after I arrived so I had the whole area to myself! The whirlpools were amazing, and the main pool, although a little cooler, was really nice. Surprisingly I didn’t feel cold when getting out! I wandered down towards midship to see if the Aquadunk was still open (around 7 o’clock), and it was.
I’d been debating during this whole trip whether I was brave enough to give it a try. I’ve realised in recent years that I think I actually have a bit of a fear of heights, so the steps up to the entrance was a bit daunting to start with. There was no queue when I got to the top, so I had a bit of time to freak out and almost chicken out of going. A little girl, who couldn’t have been older than 6 came up the steps and I, at the age of 25 had to let her go ahead of me whilst I prepared/debated whether I could do it. Well, I’m pleased to say that despite the nerves and adrenaline, I managed it! You get into the tube, it closes on you and counts down from 3 before the floor falls from under you. If you’re claustrophobic, I’d probably say this isn’t a water slide you’d enjoy. It was great fun! Although I didn’t run back for a second go.
I headed back to the room to change for dinner tonight in Lumiere’s. We went down to deck 3 around 45 minutes early and sat in the Promenade Lounge and listened to the incredible violinist I mentioned yesterday. She was playing violin versions of modern songs. We headed in to dinner for our last main dining rotation. I always get really sad at this point knowing I’ll have to get off the ship the following morning.
I had the brie to start. It was good. I’ve had this appetiser on the Dream before, but it was much better today. Then I had potato and leak soup, which was also good. For my entree I had the chateaubriand fillet steak. It was incredible. I just about managed half of a dessert, and I had the creme brûlée. Again it was fantastic. We’re going to be really sad to say goodbye to our servers in the morning.
Back to our room, and our towel animal tonight I think was a dinosaur! Our luggage tags, survey and tip envelopes were in the room. We usually top up the tip envelopes because the service is always so amazing. Breakfast is at 8:30 tomorrow and we’re so sad to leave!
Day 4: Disembarking the Disney Magic
At dinner the night before, our servers explained the process for the morning, and told us that our breakfast time was 8:30. We decided to take our bags off the ship ourselves, as we were parked so close to the port and only had a small suitcase each and a carry on bag. When we arrived at the atrium that morning it was very busy. There was a long queue at guest services, and also a line growing to go in for breakfast. I didn’t realise, but our breakfast times had been staggered. We arrived 5 minutes early, and they were calling for 8:15 slots to go in first. Despite the staggered times, it did feel a little unorganised. Our server explained the breakfast options, but suggested ordering quick as it seemed there needed to be a fast turnover of tables that morning. I ordered the eggs for the road. The scrambled eggs on the Disney ships are my favourite!
We ate up and handed our tip envelopes to our servers, and off the ship we walked. Our Key to the World card was scanned but that’s it. Off we walked, and 5 minutes later we were back at the car and heading home.
I’m so so grateful to have been able to experience a Disney Magic at Sea staycation. For just that few days, the world felt normal despite the changes onboard. I would definitely recommend this type of holiday… Disney really went above and beyond to make things magical.
The following day we received a Fornum and Mason hamper in the post, which was a free gift when booking though the travel agent we used. It was a nice touch! The fudge was my favourite.
I’m already counting down the days until I can sail again. I hope it’s not too far away!
