Day 5: At Sea
I did not take a lot of pictures today, which tends to happen on sea days. I’ve got to try and be better about that in the future.
I slept late, until 9:15, and then went to get coffee and walk some laps on deck 4 with my husband. We then went to Cabanas and brought back a light breakfast for the girls, who were still sleeping when we arrived.
We let them eat and get ready and then we all went to the Promenade Lounge for Disney Trivia at 11:45. I can’t remember at what point during the cruise we discovered these, but our girls became big fans of the cotton candy milkshakes in the Promenade Lounge. Many were consumed on this trip, usually during trivia.
I didn’t make any notes about our trivia performance, but I think we did pretty well. We definitely didn’t win.
After trivia, our youngest daughter and I went someplace that I have never before been on a Disney ship – the health center. She had cut the bottom of her foot while snorkeling the other day and we were having a hard time keeping a bandaid on it, and we were also running out of the stash of bandaids I had brought.
The nice man at the window gave us lots of bandaids, as well as a roll of tape which was useful in keeping the bandaid on her foot.
Next, we met up with the others in the atrium for Jack-Jack’s Diaper Dash. This is a really funny event and we always try and watch it. They get crawling baby volunteers and put them on the race mat and see who crosses the finish line first. It is always hilarious! Some babies are really into it, some are just confused and some want nothing to do with it.
Next we went to Cabanas for lunch, and then at 2:00 we went to the Walt Disney Theater to see Family Variety: Danny Buckler.
He is a comedian/magician and it was an entertaining show.
Next, we went to Fathoms for the Broadway Guest Artist Presentation. We had discovered earlier in the cruise that the actress who played Mother Gothel in the Tangled show and Lady Tremaine in Twice Charmed was what they call a “Broadway guest artist”. It was pretty obvious from watching the shows that her skill and talent level were above those of the rest of the cast (who are still very talented!). Our middle daughter is a Broadway fanatic so she was so excited for this.
Her name was Elizabeth DeRosa, and while she has a lengthy resume, her most well-known role is the understudy to Mary Poppins on Broadway for 7 years.
The presentation consisted of her giving us a background of her life and career, and she sang a little bit as well. She also took some questions from the audience.
Afterwards, she was available for photos and autographs.
Next, we went back to the Promenade Lounge for milkshakes and Disney Tunes Trivia at 4:30.
Trivia ended at 5:00, and I have no clue what we did next (we probably spent some time in the shops) but we eventually made our way to the Walt Disney Theater at 6:15 for the evening show, “Disney Dreams: An Enchanted Classic”. It was great as always!
At 8:15 we went to Animator’s Palate for the final dinner of this sailing.
I forgot to photograph the menu, but this is the one from our most recent cruise (last November on the Fantasy) and I think it is the same. It is at least very, very similar.
I think I just realized why I don’t have nearly as many food photos as usual. In the past, my husband and I have almost always ordered all 3 courses. However, this time we found ourselves typically ordering only 1 or 2. I think we just didn’t want to feel so stuffed afterwards.
This is one of my favorites. I think I like it more than the black truffle pasta. The Porcini Sacchetti (excellent):
The Dill and Lemon Marinated Shrimp (good):
The Grilled Garlic-Marinated Shrimp (great):
The Very Cherry Chocolate Sundae (great):
The Chocolate Decadence (great):
The Cappuccino Mousse (great):
After dinner, we said goodbye to Aubrey and Agus and gave them their tip envelopes. The day before, our head server Mavis had asked us if we would like to keep the same serving team for the next cruise. While we had no complaints about Aubrey and Agus, we asked to be switched to a server that we had met previously on the Wonder on our back-to-back California Coast/Alaska cruises in 2018. Leo was our Palo server 3 times on those sailings and we just immediately clicked with both him and his wife Alexandra, who is a main dining room server. I assumed he was still on the Wonder, so imagine our surprise on the first night of this cruise when we saw him in the main dining room in the section right next to ours! He and Alexandra had switched to the Magic because they had been on the Wonder for 10 years and were ready to see other parts of the world. He had switched from Palo to the main dining rooms so that his schedule would be the same as Alex’s. Mavis made the switch for us without any issues.
After dinner I think we may have gone to Ultimate Disney Trivia while waiting for karaoke to start at 11:00 PM. Thankfully it was really 10:00 PM as we were turning the clocks back 1 hour tonight so that we would be back on NYC time for our return to the city in the morning.
After karaoke, it was off to bed to get some rest for our day in NYC tomorrow and our back-to-back experience.
Tricia P. says
I love reading about your adventures!
I am guessing the milk shakes are an additional cost?
Thanks!
Disney Cruise Mom says
Hi Tricia! Yes, the milkshakes were $5. I think they also had bubblegum flavor.
Amanda says
I think my daughter would love the cotton candy milkshake. Do you know if they have serve it on the Fantasy? She would not be interested in the more elaborate version served at Sweet On You.
Disney Cruise Mom says
Hi Amanda! I do not know if it is on the Fantasy. I think your best bet would be to check in the D Lounge. Even if it’s not on the menu, they might still be able to make it for you.
