Day 2: At Sea
I woke up around 8:00 AM (although we had moved the clocks forward an hour the night before so to me it felt like 7:00 AM) and went up to deck 9 to get some coffee. I also went by guest services to get a copy of the daily navigator, since I realized the night before that Abhay would not be leaving them in our room each night. I noticed that the weather was beautiful – cool but not cold with a slight breeze. I went back to the room and convinced my husband to do some laps on deck 4 with me before our Palo brunch at 10:30.
We walked 3 full laps, which I think equals 1 mile. Did you know that as you walk around the front and back of the ship on deck 4, you can see all sorts of equipment and machines?
I also noticed these new water bottle filling stations:
After our 3 laps we went back to the room to wake the girls, shower and get ready for Palo. I think we may have swung by Cabanas on the way to grab some pastries & milk for the girls.
At 10:30 we went to deck 10 for our Palo brunch. I only took a photo of the menu – somehow I completely forgot to take photos of food, but I did get some on our visit on the next cruise. You can also see lots of photos from Palo brunch on a previous cruise here.
Our server was good, but not memorable so I can’t recall his name. Also, I much prefer brunch on the Magic & Wonder than Fantasy (I haven’t done it on the Dream). For me, the way they have it set up on the Magic/Wonder, with the buffet area in the middle of the room, is so much more expansive, impressive, and inviting than on the Fantasy where it is tucked into a back corner with no windows. If you have only done brunch on the Dream/Fantasy and weren’t overly impressed, please give it another try on the Magic/Wonder if you get the chance. They are quite different in my opinion.
We finished brunch about 12:30 and went back to the rooms to get the girls. They were ready for lunch, so we went with them to get some food from Cabanas. While they ate, we sat by the pool and watched The Jungle Book on Funnel Vision.
After lunch, we went to the shops to buy some of the Bermuda merchandise. I bought a shirt, magnet, and ornament. They also had a water bottle and pin, and 3-4 shirt designs.
At 1:45, my husband and oldest daughter went to Marvel Trivia in the Promenade Lounge. They said it was really hard and they have seen all of the Marvel movies. The other 2 girls and I browsed the shops some more during this time.
Next, we went to Fathoms for “So You Think You Know Your Family?” at 2:45.
My oldest daughter wanted to participate, so we raised our hands and were chosen as one of 4 parent/child groups to play the game. They ask the kids a question, and the parent has to guess what the child will say and write the answer on a dry erase board. Then they get the kids to answer the question, and the parent reveals their written answer to see if it was right. Then, everyone swaps places and the kids have to write answers to what they think the parents will say. I think the kids and parents each got 4 questions. We did really well – we only missed one! However, a team that missed 2 was named the official winner but oh well – it was still fun!
When it was over, we went back to the rooms and found that they had delivered our Platinum gift of chocolate truffles, 1 box per room.
They were surprisingly good. After a brief rest in the room, we went to the Promenade Lounge at 4:15 for Disney Tunes Trivia. Worth noting is that this trivia session was not on the paper navigator, but it was on the navigator app. Our youngest chose our team name:
I think she jinxed us because we did not win. We did really well, but the winning team had a perfect score.
After trivia, we rushed to the Walt Disney Theater for the evening show, which was the movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. None of us had seen it before, and I didn’t know much about it. I didn’t particularly enjoy it. It is so weird and I just couldn’t get into it. Am I missing something? Can someone explain to me the appeal? I am guessing people might like it because of it’s weirdness, but I do not feel the need to ever see it again. I thought my kids would agree with me, but they found it more tolerable and said they would watch it again.
When the movie was over, we walked past the atrium where “Mickey’s Mouse-Querade Party” was in full swing. You’ve probably figured out by now that today was the day of the cruise for the official Halloween festivities. The Mouse-Querade party happened twice – at 6:00 and 8:15. We walked by during the 6:00 party.
We didn’t bring costumes because it is just too much stuff to pack. We are not light packers as it is and to add in costumes was just too much. We sailed on Halloween day on 2014 (the last time we were on the Magic!) and did costumes and the party then, so we didn’t feel the need to do it again. FYI, most of the feedback I have heard is that the trick-or-treating situation is not great – the stations are somewhat disorganized and hard to find in the crowds. So, set your trick-or-treating expectations accordingly.
We watched the party for a few minutes and then we split up. We had about an hour until dinner, and the girls wanted to go back to the rooms to watch movies. My husband and I went back to deck 4 to walk some more laps and enjoy the beautiful weather. As we emerged from the aft equipment area, we saw this:
Sorcerer Mickey was just hanging out by himself watching the sunset! Actually, he was waiting for his cue to go into the door to Animator’s Palate immediately to the left to make his dinner appearance because early dining was taking place. I was surprised that there was not a handler with him. This is the sunset he was admiring:
We went to get the girls and head to Rapunzel’s Royal Table for dinner at 8:15. This was our first time to see this dining room and we were so excited! Tonight was Rapunzel’s birthday celebration, which is the menu/entertainment unique to this dining room.
The theming and decor of this dining room are awesome!
There is a show during dinner with Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and the thugs, complete with singing and dancing. I won’t go into too much detail because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who wants to be surprised. I have lots of video on my Instagram highlights.
The characters all make rounds throughout the dining room, but have your cameras ready because they move very quickly!
I was only slightly better about food photos tonight. I ordered the sea bass (very good):
My husband ordered the Flynn Rider Platter (very good):
Aubrey must have pegged us (correctly!) as puzzle-lovers, because it only took her until the second night to bust out the crayons tricks. Some people might find it annoying if their severs do this, but we are all pretty competitive and love a good challenge.
For dessert, I ordered the Lemon-Raspberry Mousse Bomb. My family thinks I’m crazy for liking this, but I love all things lemon and I love light & fluffy desserts, and this combines the two:
Someone got the Gothel Black Forest Tower (very good):
The Birthday Cupcake Sundae (very good):
The Creme Brûlée Cheesecake (very good):
And the signature dessert, Rapunzel’s Fry Pan Sweet Bread (AMAZING!):
This is perhaps the best dessert I have ever tasted on a Disney cruise! They will ask if you want ice cream on the side. During dessert, we had some people visit the table:
Be careful of the thugs! They love to sneak up behind you!
Her attempt at “the smolder”:
My verdict on Rapunzel’s Royal Table: It is fabulous! The decor, the show, the characters, the menu – I loved it all! So much better than Parrot Cay and Carioca’s (what use to be in this space) and probably my favorite dining room of all. DCL nailed it with this one.
We finished dinner close to 10:00, and my husband and oldest wanted to go to bed and watch movies. The rest of us went to the D Lounge for “Scary-Okee Karaoke” at 10:45. After that we turned in for the night. Abhay had made us 2 Halloween themed towel animals:

I was on the Dream in September for our first ever cruise. I also found the trick or treating to be very disorganized and hectic. As for Palo, the main food tables are set up in the back and I quite liked it. Although, I do understand what you mean about it being set up in the middle. I was blown away by almost every thing at Palo. Our cruise wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for in terms of service but we are willing to try again in a couple years. I’m loving your trip report so far.

I’m hoping to go on the Magic soon. Rapunzel’s Royal dinner sounds like my whole family would love it!
LOL, I agree, “Nightmare Before Christmas” is just too weird. I watched it and felt like I kept “waiting for the real movie to start”…

I get your comment on The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s a strange but good movie. My daughter and husband went to Disneyland last November and went through the Haunted Mansion and it had a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay through the ride. It changed their perspective of the movie. Just wanted to share a non cruise but movie connection. They couldn’t get enough of the ride on that visit.
