Day 3: Bermuda

We woke up this morning and realized we had reached our destination— we were officially docked in Bermuda! This day ended up being our favorite day of the entire trip. It was the perfect mix of activities and relaxation. Before we get too far into today’s adventures, I want to point out one of our favorite aspects of this itinerary. Docking overnight, and staying at the same port for 2 days, was truly magical. There was less pressure to “do all the things” in just one day; there was no movement of the ship for a nice stretch of time; the ship seemed practically empty for the 36 hours we were docked in Bermuda. We really loved docking at a port overnight. I’m not sure how many other Disney Cruise Line itineraries feature an overnight stay like this, but it will be high on our priorities list for future sailings!
We started our day slowly again with lots of Disney Junior on TV and breakfast at Cabanas. We spent the rest of the morning up on Deck 9, watching Funnel Vision, walking around, and taking in the sights. The water around Bermuda was just gorgeous… such a lovely turquoise blue! Eleanor was ready for her nap around 11 am, so we repeated our routine from the previous day. This day, I decided to nap, too. What a treat!
By the time we woke up, Evelyn and David had eaten already, so we joined them on Deck 9 once again for some quick service food, DCL-style. Around this time in the trip we realized that Eleanor would eat more if we brought her stroller with us, and let her eat off her stroller tray. Navigating the stroller around the ship wasn’t always the fastest way to get from Point A to Point B, but it definitely had its advantages. We used a City Mini single, which has been our beloved stroller since Evelyn was born 4+ years ago. We added it up the other day and realized that stroller has gone on at least 20 trips over the last 4 years, with countless magical miles under its wheels. I can’t recommend the City Mini enough for everyday use and easy travel.
Our meal ended once again with ice cream cones— I think David, Evelyn and I always went for chocolate-vanilla twist, and we got Eleanor a little vanilla cone. For anyone traveling with a teething toddler, cake cones make a great teething biscuit alternative! They dissolve quickly, and the pointed cones on the Disney Cruise ships are easy for babies to grasp.
We originally planned to venture out and explore King’s Wharf on foot this afternoon. We thought we would enjoy a nice walk and see what we could see, within walking distance of the ship. This plan didn’t come to fruition for us, and that’s okay. Evelyn declared she wanted to go to the Kids Club after lunch instead, so we changed our plans and made that happen. It’s important to note that we did not book any excursions for this trip. That was intentional, because we’ve learned that flexibility is the most important priority for our family with our girls being so small. Enjoying views of Bermuda from the ship trumps dragging whiney, sad toddlers around Bermuda on foot any day. 😉 I’m glad we left this day open-ended… it ended up being a wonderful day all around.
We dropped Evelyn off at the Oceaneer’s Club for the first time by herself. It helped her to know what activities were going on in the Club that day… she’s a planner, like her Mama! I was glad some of the programs were listed on the Daily Navigator. Once she was all checked in, we decided to see if Eleanor would tolerate the nursery. We had already registered her during the first day. We checked Eleanor in, handed her off, and lingered for just a few minutes throughout the 1-way glass window to make sure she was okay. She got right to work playing with the blocks and other babes, so away we went.
David and I decided to see if any day passes were available for the Rainforest Room this afternoon— they were! With both girls settled in their respective clubs we decided to unwind and enjoy some time at Senses Spa. Since so many people were off the ship, we found an almost-empty spa. I was worried that after experiencing the rain showers, jacuzzi and loungers on the Disney Dream a few years ago, we would be disappointed by the spa setup on the Magic. We loved the space though, and really enjoyed the sauna and two different steam rooms. We spent quite a bit of time on the hot stone loungers, which didn’t seem that special at first, but grew warmer and warmer the longer you lounged. We stayed in the spa until it was almost dinner time. David and I showered in the lockers rooms so we wouldn’t have to take turns showering in our stateroom. Then we reluctantly left to pick up the girls.
Evelyn was excited to see us and tell us all about her adventures in the Oceaneer’s Club. Next, we stopped by the Nursery, but Eleanor was asleep! That was a-okay with us… we decided to let her sleep, and to head to dinner just the three of us.
Tonight’s dinner was in Animator’s Palate. Between the absence of our most-demanding diner, a menu that was loved by our entire family, and a perfect table right in Mickey’s path for the show, we REALLY enjoyed our meal tonight. Evelyn found a new favorite vegetable— lima beans! They were in the kids chicken noodle soup. David and I both enjoyed our meals as well.
We picked Eleanor up from the nursery after dinner. She was awake, refusing to eat the dinner they were serving, and MAD. It turns out the nursery had paged us, but we only had one Wave phone with us, and for some reason the message only sent to the device in the room. We made sure to carry both Wave phones with us for the rest of the cruise. David ended up venturing to Cabanas for some more food for Eleanor to eat in the room; he also brought back a “small” dessert plate for us to share.
We got the girls settled in for bed, then I finished my movie from the night before, and David ventured out to enjoy some quiet time on the ship. Today was the day I finally remembered we could request a continental breakfast from room service, so we placed our order on the door and settled in for bed. Everyone slept well this night— there was no motion whatsoever since we were docking overnight.
