Day 2: At Sea
This morning we all slept in a little bit as the first thing we had planned was Palo brunch at 10:30. Another thing I like about back-to-backs is getting to do Palo brunch twice! We were actually able to do it twice on our 14 night Panama Canal cruise due to there being so many sea days, but on shorter cruises it is pretty much unheard of to be able to get 2 brunch reservations (the most you can reserve in advance is 1 brunch and 1 dinner).
We usually receive our Palo reminder card the night before, but today we received it the same morning.
We also had this note at our door:
I needed to go down to guest services anyway to get a daily navigator, so I checked on this while I was there. It turns out they wanted to check and see if we had received the second Halloween blanket that we had ordered. I had ordered 2 but there had only been 1 in our room the previous day, and I had asked guest services about it. Abhay had dropped it off the previous evening, we we were all good. I checked out the weather on the way, which was overcast with very calm seas:
I also saw that the princess gathering was happening in the lobby. The princesses in attendance were Cinderella, Rapunzel, Tiana and Ariel.
My husband and I went to Palo at 10:30 and left the girls in the room. They were still waking up and watching movies but said they might go do something soon.
This time our server was Edward from England, who was great and we enjoyed chatting with him. He is a world traveler and told us about his upcoming trip to Africa.
I never study the menu very closely, but it seemed unchanged from our previous brunches within the last year or two.
The view from our table:
We made our first trip to the buffet and got our usual favorites. From the menu, I ordered the artichoke ravioli:
My husband ordered the lasagna. This is the fluffiest, lightest lasagna I have ever tasted:
When it was time for dessert, Edward surprised us with the Nutella lava cake:
Everything we ate was outstanding!
After brunch, we texted the girls and told them to meet us in the Promenade Lounge for Halloween crafts. This was the day of the Halloween festivities onboard, so most things today were Halloween-themed. The craft was a 3D Hatbox Ghost from the Haunted Mansion. We ordered our cotton candy milkshakes and got started.
This craft was definitely not suited for young kids because there was a lot of intricate cutting and folding involved. I even helped my youngest with some of their cutting because while she could do it, she had to go very slowly and began to get behind. FYI, I just noticed our silicone straws in the photo below. DCL recently did away with plastic straws and lids (details here) so bring your own if it’s important to you.
The finished product:
Some of us were not finished with our crafts yet when Marvel Trivia started so we decided to try and do both. These are the looks of 2 people trying to do two things at once:
Next we went to So You Think You Know Your Family at 2:45 in Fathoms. On the last cruise, our oldest daughter and I had participated (but didn’t win). This time, our middle daughter wanted to do it and we were chosen as one of the 4 parent/child pairs. Since it was a different kid and most of the questions were different, I didn’t feel like we had too much of advantage, but we still ended up winning.
Next we went back to the Promenade Lounge at 4:15 for Disney Tunes Trivia. This is offered on most sea days, but the songs are always different so you can go to all of them and still have fun. They were setting up for the Halloween party later that evening:
After trivia, we went to see Toy Story 4 at 5:45 in the Buena Vista Theater. None of us had seen it yet and I thought it was pretty good. I’m usually not a fan of sequels but this was better than I expected. The evening show in the Walt Disney Theater was The Nightmare Before Christmas, which we had watched on the previous sailing and I don’t feel the need to ever see again.
At 8:15 we went to Lumiere’s for dinner.
The Iced Lobster and Jumbo Shrimp (great):
The Breaded and Deep Fried Brie (great):
The Farmhouse Salad (very good):
The Chateaubriand-Roasted Filet Steak (great):
The Roasted Rack of Lamb (very good):
The Apple Tart Tatin (very good):
The Strawberry Shortcake Sundae (great):
The Duo Chocolate Slice (great):
Leo surprised us with a Halloween dessert that was not on the menu. We saw this the last time we were on the Magic for Halloween in 2014 so we were excited that it made a reappearance!
After dinner, we went to Scary-Okee Karaoke at 10:45 in the D Lounge. We arrived early and saw the end of Family Animation, where they were drawing Yzma.
After karaoke, it was off to bed to get some rest before our first port day. Abhay had made us some Halloween-themed towel creations:

What a time you’re having with your family that is great! Love reading your reports and pictures. We’ve based several of our trips on the information we’ve received from your blog. It is a joy to read.

You guys ordered the same things my husband and I ordered off the Palo menu. I agree with your sentiments about all of it. If I wasn’t in an upscale place, I would’ve licked the bowl of the artichoke ravioli. That lava cake, was out of this world. Like, amazingly delicious.

I totally agree about both dishes!

Those milkshakes look yummy!! Are they included or are they an up charge?
Yay for winning the family game! Did you get a prize?? 🙂
Disney Cruise Mom says
The milkshakes were $5, I think. As for prizes, we got Mickey medallions!
