Day 6: At Sea
(you can start this trip report from the beginning by clicking here)
This was our last sea day of the cruise and it started off with a little bit of excitement. I got out of bed about 8:30 (there was another party in the laundry room from 6:00-8:00) and sometime around 9:00, the Captain made an announcement that we would be altering our course slightly in order to help a nearby sailboat with a medical emergency. I was getting ready to go get coffee anyway, so I went up to deck 11 to see what was going on. This was the sailboat:
I found a table where I could eat a bite and watch the event unfold.
After a while, this yellow boat left the Fantasy with 3 crew members onboard:
It came back to the Fantasy with 2 more men onboard. I could see them both climb from the small yellow boat onto the Fantasy but didn’t take pictures. Later during the cruise, we found out from cruise director Peter that the man was going to be okay and would disembark the ship in Port Canaveral. Peter told me that the man needed penicillin, but other cruisers were told that it was an issue with his kidneys. Either way, I’m glad our ship was right there and was able to get him treatment ASAP.
After watching the rescue, I went back to the room and showered and got ready for the day. I also did a load of laundry. The laundry room was really hopping today, but I was lucky to get both a washer and dryer with minimal waiting. It helped that I was right across the hall and could constantly check for open machines. They have these handy monitors in each laundry room that tell you how many washers and dryers are available not only in that room, but also the other laundry rooms on the ship.
At 11:30, we all went to Cabanas. The girls hadn’t eaten yet, and I had only had a few bites while watching the rescue.
At 12:45, my husband and our oldest went to the Walt Disney Theater to watch The Nutcracker and the Four Realms because we had skipped it earlier in the week when it was the evening show. The other 2 girls were not interested in watching it, so we walked around the ship for a bit. We turned in the Oceaneer’s Club wristbands which we never used, and we also went to the Character Dance Party in the atrium at 1:15. We watched from above.
Stitch was up on the balcony, and my youngest was wearing her Stitch jacket, so we had to go say hi.
Click here for a cute video of the 2 Stitches dancing together:
At 1:45, we decided to go to Anyone Can Cook in the D Lounge. The Anyone Can Cook sessions are usually adult-only, so I thought we should take advantage of this opportunity for the kids to be able to do it. For this one, the head pastry chef made apple strudel.
They pass out plates so that everyone can taste the dish during the presentation:
They provided everyone with a copy of the recipe:
The chef had a heavy Italian accent and was very funny. He did some incredible things with a piece of dough! I regret not taking a picture of it, but he mixed some dough in a bowl and then stretched it so much that it was larger than the top of the table in front of him!
This was my piece of apple strudel:
Once this was over, I had to go back to the room to get dressed for the Remy Dessert Experience at 3:15. I took this picture so that I would remember to tell you that everyday, Puri would take our earbuds and charging cords and neatly roll them up. For the charging cords, he used tiny velcro straps to keep them rolled up. I love these little touches!
At 3:15, my husband and I went to Remy for Pompidou’s Dessert Experience. I have done a thorough review in a separate post which you can read here. I think the girls stayed in the room and watched TV.
After Remy, we didn’t do much until the show at 6:15. I know we went to the shops to make some final purchases. At 6:15, we went to the Walt Disney Theater to see “The Great Dubois”.
This was a couple who does a variety act where they guy does a lot of impressive juggling (made even more impressive by the fact we were on a moving ship) and the girl does acrobatics on a large hanging hoop, and also on a hanging piece of fabric (think Cirque de Soleil). I think he said they both come from circus families. The guy was pretty funny too and did some funny things with people from the audience. We all enjoyed it.
Dinner tonight was in Animator’s Palate. This was our first dinner here since we had skipped it 3 nights ago to spend the evening swimming. We had missed the Crush show, and tonight was the Animation Magic show, which we prefer anyway so it worked out perfectly.
This is a fairly new menu for the Animation Magic show. We had it on the Wonder in May, but from what I’ve heard/read, it has only been on the Fantasy since September-ish (someone correct me if I’m wrong about this). They used to have only 1 appetizer choice and one soup choice, so that they could time the pace of the dinner more carefully to coincide with the animation show. Now, you have several choices for the first 2 courses, but I believe the entree choices are pretty much the same.
Melroy brought us the dessert menu at the same time as the dinner menu and told us that we needed to go ahead and make our dessert choices now, as to ensure that we weren’t trying to order dessert during the animation show.
This was the Porcini Sacchetti. It is almost exactly like the Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes from the other Animator’s Palate menu, but with a mushroom twist. I like these just as much, if not more. They are SO good!
The Dill and Lemon Marinated Shrimp (very good):
The Chicken Schnitzel (very good):
The Grilled Garlic-Marinated Shrimp (very good):
The Chocolate Decadence (excellent):
I repeated the Cappuccino Mousse from the night before (excellent):
The Orchard Peach Tart (didn’t taste):
The Animation Magic show was great as always! I forgot to take pictures as I was too busy taking videos, but all of my videos have strangers’ faces front and center so I won’t share them. If you really want to see what the show is like, you can see it towards the end of my Alaska cruise video here.
After dinner, we met Minnie in the atrium at 9:30 because my youngest wanted to tell her that we named our dog after her. She was thrilled to hear this and we even showed her a picture! Here is our Minnie:
She is 3 pounds of pure sweetness!
After this we were tired and went to bed. Puri had left this for us, which is always a most unwelcome sight:
These were our tip envelopes to be handed out the following day. You can read all about tipping on a Disney cruise here. We were much more excited to see this:

We saw The Great Dubois on our cruise last year and my kids still talk about it! We loved them!

They were very impressive!
