On day 3 when we woke up we were either docked, or close to docking in Cozumel. Before my cancer diagnosis we had originally planned to do the Fury Catamaran excursion through DCL because I have only heard great things about it and our youngest finally met the age requirement. However, we ended up cancelling it and decided to stay on the ship once we realized that I would only be 5 weeks out from my double mastectomy. I still couldn’t swim post surgery, and honestly I really just didn’t have the stamina yet. We love sea days anyway, so no one was incredibly disappointed.
First thing we did after breakfast was hit the pools, which were deserted since most people were on shore:
I noticed that they were setting up for the Oaken’s Maypole Swirl and Twirl that would take place later that afternoon:
Since I know that moms of young kids may be wondering, these are the life jacket stands that they have set up near the pools:
After swimming and lunch we went to the Pictionary Challenge in the Promenade Lounge at 1:00. We were the only ones who showed up but we still enjoyed it. The 2 cruise staff members running it made it fun. There were 3 categories that the person drawing could choose from: girl Disney characters, boy Disney characters, or Disney destinations. The destinations could be Disney locations anywhere in the world and most were fairly specific, like Triton’s (on the ship), the carousel in the Magic Kingdom, Main Street USA, etc. The cruise staff even took turns drawing as well to make things more interesting. Here are my daughter and hubby in action:
I can’t remember if it was this day or the day before, but at some point we received a Frozen scavenger hunt form in our room, and this was the day that my hubby and girls chose to complete it while I took some time to rest.
There were 9 clues and locations you had to find throughout the ship. The first 5 clues were listed in the day 2 navigator, and the last 4 clues were listed in the day 3 navigator (you can see the navigators here if you want to see what the clues were). The clues pointed you towards certain locations on the ship where you would find a large Frozen themed decal/sticker with a picture on it. You were supposed to write what the picture was and the location you found it on your form and leave it on your bed for your stateroom host. He/she would then in turn leave a prize (see tomorrow’s trip report to find out what the prize was!). The girls had a great time doing it, and the clues were not too difficult for them (ages 5, 9 & 10) to figure out on their own. I would recommend that your kids do this if you have the time.
This afternoon, our stateroom host dropped off 5 light up snowflake necklaces for the Freezing the Night Away deck party later that night:
At some point in the afternoon I took some pictures of the port area from our verandah. This shows the pier you have to walk down when you get off the ship:
The coastline:
This shows the area where you enter/exit the ship, with the shade tents, water stations, towel returns, and hand cleaning stations:
This is a close up of the mall at the end of the pier. I have walked through it once (years ago) and from what I remember it seemed like a pleasant place to shop for souveniers. You also have to walk through it to get to the taxi stand:
I’m fairly certain that on the left side of this picture is the ferry station that will take you to the mainland:
Here is a close up that shows some of the ferry boats:
As I was taking these pictures, the Fury Catamaran excursion (that we had originally booked and then cancelled due to my health) returned. It looked and sounded like they were having a good time!
One of the things that initially attracted me to this excursion is the fact that you don’t have to ride in a car – you get on and off the boat right at the pier. Here they are unloading:
We did plenty of relaxing this afternoon as well:
At 4:00 we went back to the Promenade Lounge for Disney Cruise Line Trivia. There were more people this time, probably about 4 or 5 teams. They asked for you to have no more than 4 people on your team, and we determined that our 5 year old would contribute the least so she was officially kicked off our team. But, we were nice and still let her sit next to us. 🙂 Here is our answer sheet before we began:
Some of the questions were pretty easy (In what year did the Magic start sailing?), but a lot of them were difficult (How many staterooms are on the Wonder?) We ended up asnwering 19 out of 25 correctly (with a few of those being blind guesses) and actually won the game! We got these medals as prizes:
Right after the game it was time to go up to the pool deck for Oaken’s Maypole Swirl and Twirl that we had seen them setting up for earlier that day:
This was our first glimpse of the cruise staff’s Frozen outfits:
I thought they were adorable and the staff did a great job of staying in character. There were a lot of “Yoo-hoos” being shouted out and they were calling everyone “cousin”. They asked for “cousins” to help with the show and my daughter quickly offered:
The show was very simple but cute. It really just involved having the kids each grab a ribbon from the pole and do different things with it. I think younger kids would enjoy it more than older ones, and I wouldn’t consider it a must-do. Here is some video that I took:
After the Twirl it was time to head back to the room and get ready for dinner. Tonight was the Frozen themed menu which I was excited to see since it had been a while since I had seen a new menu on one of our cruises. I don’t normally take pictures of the menus, but since this one is so new I did:
We were not blown away by the offerings but I applaud their efforts and the menus (as well as the waitstaff’s attire) were nicely done.
After dinner it was time to go up to the pool deck for the Freezing the Night Away Deck Party at 7:45. We stopped by our room first to grab our snowflake necklaces and found these:
On our previous cruises we have almost always found that we don’t have to show up to parties super early in order to get a good spot. Well, this was different. We got there about 7:40 and there was practically no good vantage point to see the show. I recommend getting there much earlier. We ended up on the very side, right behind the round covered area and were unable to see the Dumbotron (which was used for portions of the show) and really just saw the sides and backs of the performers. Here we are before the show. You can kind of see where we were in relation to the stage:
And here is a compilation of the video that I took:
This was a very well done production and an amazing show. Get there early for a good spot!!!
After the party we went to the theater for the 8:30 show which was the comedy and magic of Shawn Farquar. It was entertaining, but once again I don’t consider it a must-do. He did some amazing things but I don’t feel like I would have regretting not going.
After the show most of us went to bed, but either myself or my hubby (can’t remember which) stayed up late to take our daughter to family karaoke at 10:15. It’s a good thing she’s a night owl. I really wish that DCL would have family karaoke earlier than 10:15 every night. They did have it earlier on Pirate Night, but that was it. We have found this to be the case on all of our previous cruises as well.
