I have had this idea to make my own custom Disney Cruise Line bag for a while now and I am happy to say I finally got around to actually doing it! This was my inspiration:
These pillows are in all of the rooms on Disney cruise ships. I have yet to fork over the $190 from DisneyStore.com to buy my own, but I thought that I could try and recreate the design on other things. I have an unhealthy obsession with bags and own way too many of them, so that was naturally my first idea to try. This pattern (or a variation of it) is also found on the front of all 4 ships. You can see about half of it in this picture:
So, I bought a red bag (click here to see which one) and some gold crystals and went to work! I pulled up a picture of the pillow on my computer and used a graphics program to trace the design, simplifying it a little bit as I went because I knew I was going to make it smaller and thus it would have to lose some of the finer details. After that, I printed it out the size that I wanted and made the decal using clear transfer paper and Swarovski hot fix crystals. After I placed the crystals onto the design, I ironed the whole thing onto one side of the bag. This is what it looks like:
I am super happy with the results! I haven’t used it yet so I am anxious to see how well the crystals stay on with normal wear and tear. They seem to be stuck on there really good right now, so I am hopeful it will hold up. The bag is a nylon material which I really like, because that makes it fairly water and stain proof. I plan to take it on our upcoming Panama Canal cruise.
I have another craft project in the works using this same design, so I’ll be able to share that with you all before too long.

I LOVE that bag! I bet you would get a ton of compliments and requests for “Where did you get that bag?!?!?!” if you took it on one of the ships. I would never think to take on a project like that. I also would have been concerned about ironing on a nylon-type of fabric, but your bag turned out fabulous!

Thanks Michelle! I was very worried about ironing the nylon too, so the first thing I did was take a few crystals and iron them to the bottom of the bag as a test. First I used a thin cloth between the iron and bag as a precaution, but I soon discovered that the cloth was not needed and I could iron directly onto the bag with no discoloration or anything. I am curious to see if anyone comments on it when I take it on our cruise in April!

I absolutely adore your bag!!! You did an amazing job on it .Going on a Disney Cruise this August… what graphics program did you use to create your bag? I’m willing to try this craft project. I don’t know if it will come out as wonderful as yours but my daughter wants me to try. Thank you so much for sharing your tips and adventures. It has been such a pleasure to read.
