This guest trip report was written by Cynthia, who sailed on the October 18, 2021 sailing on the Disney Wonder from San Diego. It was a 4 night cruise that stopped in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. You can start the report from the beginning here.
Day 3: Cabo San Lucas & Pirate Night
Today was our one and only port day – beautiful Cabo San Lucas. We were up bright and early for breakfast on the Cabanas patio so we could take in the view. The view did not disappoint.
We decided to spend the day exploring the Cabo harbor area. With the current DCL safety protocols, you basically have two options if you want to get off the ship: If you are fully vaccinated, you can get off on your own and enjoy all there is to experience. If you are not fully vaccinated (basically under 12 at the time of our sailing), you can only get off the ship as part of a DCL shore excursion and you must stay with your group at all times.
We chose to get off the ship on our own and were directed to Animator’s Palate to gather with other passengers disembarking the ship on their own. When we arrived at Animator’s there were no other passengers disembarking.
We were not deterred! We made our way down to Deck 1 and onto the tender for the short ride into the harbor. The quick trip gave us a great view of the ship and the surrounding scenery.
When we arrived at the dock, we were directed to the security check where our bags and Key to the World cards were checked. We did not have to show our proof of vaccinations. There were a few DCL security personnel monitoring the traffic and answering answers. The security process was very easy and quick.
Once we cleared security, we walked around the harbor and a few of the shops. We did our best to dodge the vendors trying to sell shore adventures and tours. We wanted to make our way out of the harbor into other shopping areas. Our plan was to be off the ship for a few hours and then make our way back for lunch on board. It appeared to us that the majority of the passengers simply stayed on board and treated the day as a sea day. The harbor area was picturesque and fun to explore even though it was very hot.
We did find Cabo Wabo but did not stop as it was too early to enjoy the true Cabo Wabo experience!
One of the items we were looking to buy was a silver anklet for my daughter – that was her only request. We ended up stopping to talk to a gentleman that was standing outside a store. It turned out to be his jewelry store. His store is located just down the street from Cabo Wabo. He was very nice and appreciative of the tourists returning to Cabo. He told us he had been closed for nine months and was very close to closing his business altogether when word came that the port was reopened and the cruise ships were returning. We went into his store to see if we could find an anklet and were delighted to discover that he had some wonderful options. I could not choose, so I was able to Facetime with my daughter from the store and show her all the options. She was able to describe to the owner what she was looking for and he chose the perfect anklet. The price was right so we made our purchase and headed out. So if you are looking for a great jewelry store in Cabo and an even nicer shop owner, check out Black White jewelry.
Having completed our shopping, we headed back to the harbor so we could jump on a tender back to the Wonder. The security process back at the harbor was easy and smooth. All we needed was our Key to the World Card. After another quick tender ride, we were back on board the Wonder.
Our next stop was Deck 9 for hamburgers and shawarma. On the way I stopped to take a picture of the satellite tower on the Wonder because I just love the blue sky and colors of the flags.
After lunch, I decided to explore the ship and see what I could find. The first people I ran into were Sherri & Adam Legg, our fearless leaders for the Legglife Viewer Cruise. For a great description of this cruise, check out their YouTube Vlog series at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMQg5_3sNPY
The next order of business was to look for more characters and I was lucky to run into some friends. I have never seen the Green Army Men on a cruise. They were having a great time.
Of course Pluto and Stitch were out causing trouble – they seemed to be out interacting with the guests the most during the cruise.
Today was the modified Pirate Night – characters were dressed in their pirate best, bandanas were given to the guests, some guests dressed up in pirate attire and there were fireworks. There was no deck party or pirate menu in the dining rooms. The night was still fun, but a bit subdued as compared to previous cruises
We dined at Triton’s this evening. The menu was not the pirate night menu, but instead was the World of Flavour menu. We started with the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and the Argentinian Empanadas. The empanadas were fantastic but the spring rolls were not our favorite. Our next course was the soup course – Canadian Cheddar Cheese and Dutch Green Pea – both were very good. For our main course we tried the Indian Prawn Curry and Chicken Breast Kiev. Again, both were very good. Finally, for dessert we split the Canadian Ice Cream Sundae and it was excellent. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner.
After dinner we went to the fireworks show and then just spent the evening walking around and visiting with friends. It was a perfect way to end the busy day.
