In case you missed it, I just started a new guest trip report. Deann recently sailed on the July 9, 2018 9 night Alaska itinerary and was kind enough to share her adventures with us. You can start this trip report from the beginning right here.
Day : 2 – At Sea
Tuesday, July 10
The forecast today was for partly cloudy with showers and a high in the 60s. But, we had more sun than rain. We always start our first full day on the Wonder with the character breakfast (available on most sailings of 7+ nights).
We reserved the first one of the day and were visited by Goofy, Pluto, Minnie and Mickey. Plus, we had a great breakfast. It was held in Animator’s Palate and there were classic and modern Disney cartoons playing while we were there.
It was very efficiently run and new groups were rotated in on schedule. There is no additional cost for this, you just have to reserve it in advance online. Don’t miss it – the adults had as much fun as the kids! After breakfast, we put on jackets and went up to deck 10 and started seeing wildlife. During the day we saw three humpback whales, two dolphins, 3 seals, a salmon run with seals feasting and flipping salmon, and also several eagles. We spread out our time outdoors between decks 10 and 4. We went to deck 4, which is covered, during misty showers and back up to 10 when the sun came out. This was a good day to enjoy the deck chairs and we even needed sunscreen. Caution: don’t fall asleep in a deck chair as you can get sunburn in Alaska. We know from experience! There were quite a few people swimming in the pool.
Today was formal night and we were at Tiana’s Place. We had a great supper show with the jazz band. The Mardi Gras show was to come later in the week. Many families took advantage of dressing up to get group family pictures at the Shutters picture stations. And of course, a lot of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeovers were seen. Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Chip, and Dale were suited up in tuxedos and tails and Minnie and Daisy in ballgowns. The captain of the ship and the ship’s officers were in dress whites meeting and greeting guests, and also available for photos. The show this evening was The Golden Mickey’s, a long time favorite. We ended the day with a great sunset about 10:00 PM.
