Day 7: Castaway Cay
You can see the daily navigators for this cruise by clicking here.
It was our last full day on the ship (boo!), but our Castaway Cay day (yay!), which we all love! A large group of us had signed up to participate in the Castaway Cay 5K, but due to a medical emergency and some rough waters, we would not be docking until 11 am. They did offer the Castaway Cay 5K on the walking track on Deck 4, but we opted not to do it since we all really just wanted to see the island.
My mother-in-law and daughter had planned to parasail on the island, but that was also cancelled due to wind.
As we knew it would be this time of year, the water was a little chilly on the island, but it was perfect for playing on the beach and lounging around!
Towards the end of the day, the kids did get in the water and had a great time!
And I love this photo of my daughter doing a handstand on the beach!
We had never seen the Christmas décor on the island before and it was beautiful! The highlight was the giant Christmas tree as you walk off the ship.
I did not get photos, but we all had lunch at Cookies BBQ, which was fantastic!
As we did on our previous visit, we stayed on the island until we were kicked off! I mean, who wants to leave paradise! Once we got back on the ship and showered, most of our party went to see the final show of the week, Believe. Keith and I had seen it during our previous cruise, so we opted to stay back and pack.
Dinner that night was in Royal Court. The bread service was sourdough bread with roasted red pepper dip. It was good, but I did not get a photo.
The appetizer choices were aged prosciutto, marinated tiger shrimp, lightly breaded baked eggplant and oysters rockefeller on the half shell.
We both had the prosciutto, which was very good.
The soup and salad choices were braised oxtail soup, white onion soup, lemon fennel salad and beefsteak tomato and Vidalia onion salad.
I had the beefsteak tomato and Vidalia onion salad, while Keith had the oysters – both were very good.
This is the night they offer lobster tail as a main course and frankly, I don’t know why they put anything else on the menu. I’m kidding, I know some people don’t like it and some have allergies, but of 15 of us, all but two got the lobster tail (including the kids). Although, my cousin got the lobster tail and pork tenderloin and said the pork tenderloin was actually better. Aside from the lobster tail, the other main course choices were roasted red snapper, fettuccine with parmesan crusted chicken, pan-seared venison medallions and oven-roasted pork tenderloin.
I got one serving of the lobster tail, while Keith got two. Yes, you can order two lobster tails – this is allowed and there is no extra charge! Definitely not our normal Friday night dinner in Wisconsin!
The dessert choices were raspberry vanilla crème brulee, apricot trio, chocolate lava cake, The Captain’s Table sundae and old fashioned apple pie.
Crème brulee is my absolute favorite dessert, and I’d been waiting all week for it. It did not disappoint, it was excellent!
Keith got The Captain’s Table sundae, which he also said was great!
Now came the sad part, we had to say goodbye to Dipo, Nei Nei and Witt. They really became friends throughout the week. Nei Nei was even able to bring her boyfriend over to meet us since he worked in the same dining room and they were such a cute couple! The kids were especially sad to have to leave them and took these cute goodbye photos with them.
My mother-in-law took a few of the kids to see the final showing of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, while the rest of us headed to bed. We knew we had an early morning and a long day of travel coming up. We’d had an amazing week on our Disney Cruise, but were ready to go home.
We opted not to put down a placeholder reservation this time, which would have ensured us 10% off of our next cruise (which is what we’d done for this cruise). We miss visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, since we’ve done Disney Cruise Line vacations for our last two trips, so my immediate family will be going there next. After that, my daughter will be starting high school and we just don’t know what her schedule will be like with school and activities, so we don’t want to plan anything too far in advance. Because of this, we are planning to book a Restricted Room fare for our next cruise, which will give us approximately 20% off.
