This is Disney Fantasy stateroom 9500 which is a category 8B Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom. It is on deck 9 forward (it is actually the farthest room forward) on the starboard side of the ship. It sleeps 5 people and has the split bath configuration. These photos were taken in November 2018.
I did not choose this room, it was assigned to us when we booked an 8B GTY. We did indeed get assigned an 8B room (some people will get a higher category room) and I think this room might be considered undesirable because it is directly across the hall from a laundry room (click here to read all about the laundry options onboard). I thought this had both pros and cons: I did end up doing a load of laundry, and put some wet swim suits in a dryer once, and it was super convenient to be right across the hall to be able to quickly check for available washers & dryers (they are hard to come by) and tend to my laundry. The con, however, is that it can be noisy. It wasn’t noisy all the time, but every now and then we could hear the people talking from our room. We are not particularly averse to noise, so this never really bothered us, but there was one morning that some moms and young kids had what sounded like a party in there at 6:30 am and while we heard it, it did not bother us too much. However, people who like it perfectly quiet would definitely be bothered by the noise.
Another note regarding the location at the front of the ship: If you want to be near the Quiet Cove and Spa, this is a great location as those are forward also. But, we go to Cabanas more often so we have found that we prefer to have an aft room for much quicker access to Cabanas.
Before the cruise, I ordered an in-room gift: the holiday blanket & pillow (click here to read all about the in-room gifts available from DCL). I ordered 2, one for myself and one for a friend. These sell out fast so I ordered them the first day that they became available, which was sometime in September or October. I think they might already be sold out for this year, though there are still other holiday items available. When we first got to our room, our room host had it displayed nicely for us. They each came with a nice bag (folded on the bed) to pack them in. I was very impressed with the quality of the blanket – the entire back side is a very soft, fuzzy fleece.
You can also see the current Castaway Club gift in the above photo: for platinum, it was the sling backpack and 2 luggage tags.
Here you can see the bed above the couch that comes out of the ceiling, as well as the murphy bed in the wall:
A close-up of the murphy bed (your room host will pull it down in the evenings & put it away in the mornings, unless you ask otherwise):
The room with the toilet and a sink:
The room with the shower/tub and a sink:
This was the first time we have had a tub/shower shaped like this and we loved it! The little shelf area to the side made it feel so much larger and provided a ton of storage space.
There was also a rain shower head in addition to the standard adjustable/removable shower head:
Our favorite thing about the room was the porthole. The girls loved sitting in it throughout the cruise.
We could look out our window and see the part of the bridge that sticks out:
We were also able to see the fireworks from our window!
Here are the beds all made up:
There are stars on the ceiling above the bunk bed!
We learned the hard way that if you want to get anything out of the bottom 2 drawers or cabinets at the foot of the murphy bed, you need to do it while the bed is put away:
Overall we were happy with this room despite the noise from the laundry room. I prefer aft rooms when given the choice, but I would not be disappointed to have this room again in the future.
