Day 3: Cozumel and Pirate Night
Hola, Mexico – we arrived!
For our day in Cozumel, we decided to do a ship-sponsored port adventure, which you can read about here.
Upon returning back to the ship after the excursion, I took this photo of the ship:
We all were a bit frazzled/exhausted (i.e., “done”) after our shore excursion, so the first thing we did as soon as we got back to the ship was to drop my son off at the Oceaneer Club. We all needed a break from each other!
When my husband and I returned to our stateroom, we discovered this:
Flora, the magnificent stateroom hostess, was at it again!
And, now it was time to get ready for Pirate Night!!! Pirate Night is incredible fun, so we were pretty pumped to get ready for it.
Of course, I had to wear this pin:
Once my husband was ready, he picked our son up from the Oceaneer Club, brought him back to the stateroom, and got him changed. It was just about 5:00pm, so I headed over to the Concierge Lounge for my happy hour! I then met up with the two of them in the Lobby Atrium area for various photo ops with characters in pirate gear, including Captain Jack Sparrow.
Captain Jack was pretty convincing! He even attempted to flirt with me, much to my husband’s chagrin. “I shall miss you,” he whispered in my ear. And, I shall miss you, too, Jack Sparrow!
We were back in Carioca’s for dinner. There were so many appetizing things on the menu, it was really hard to decide what to get. So, in my usual fashion, I ordered a whole lot of everything: empanadas panzudas de carne (absolutely the BEST empanadas I’ve ever had), deep fried lobster croquetas, fried plantain and malanga pancakes, and small corn tortillas (with Veracruzan refried bean dip, green tomatillo-chile, and Salvadorian pupusa relish). Whew! My husband had the Cuban salad and the sopa de frijoles negros habanera. Everything was absolutely delicious, even the warm banana bread service, which came with a unique and amazing mango-mint mojo sauce. For dessert, I had another scrumptious sundae: the Carioca’s ice cream sundae, which came with dulce de leche ice cream, caramelized apples, and CHURROS!!! (I had to capitalize “churros”, as any opportunity to eat churros calls for all-caps.)
After our fantastic dinner, we went back to our stateroom and found a turkey waiting for us:
And, then, the coup d’etat from Flora:
Unbelievable!!! She topped herself (again).
She also left us some treasure….
My son gobbled up all the chocolate gold coins in two seconds, despite having had three cookies for dessert at dinner time.
But, the fun was only beginning…it was time to go up on Deck 9 for the Pirates In the Caribbean Deck Party! We never attended the Pirate Night party on the Disney Dream. Since we already were missing bedtime by a long shot every night of this cruise, we thought, “what the heck?” So, we went up on deck, outdoors under the Caribbean stars, to see what all the fuss was about.
If this was any indication, then we were in for a treat:
As you can see, some folks go all out with the costumes. No shame for anyone! It’s an all-out arrrggghhh-fest!!!
The Funnel Vision jumbotron thing made us well aware of where we were:
There was plenty of entertainment with the characters and crew on the stage and lots of singing and dancing:
It was quite the party! And, the grand finale was fireworks at sea!!!
It’s a small miracle we’re all alive after that explosion…
It was hard to return back to the stateroom to get my son in bed after all the excitement, but we knew there was even more excitement to be had during our second day at sea the next day!
Up next: Day at Sea
